FAQ

What is considered heavy menstrual bleeding?

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may be suffering from heavy bleeding. Click on the link below for the questions.

I have not had a PAP smear in 3 to 4 years and I am having problems that I think are hormonal. Can Dr. Allison take care of both problems when I come in?

Insurance companies no longer allow us to do what is considered a preventive or health maintenance visit at the same time as a problem visit. You may often have to choose which you want to address first and reschedule another visit for the other.

I think I am pregnant. Can I come to your office?

Dr. Allison concentrates on gynecologic care only. She no longer provides prenatal care or does deliveries. She also does not perform pregnancy terminations.

Can I schedule a PAP smear when I may be on my menstrual period?

We prefer that you not be on your menstrual period at the time of your appointment though a small amount of spotting should not be a problem.

I am a college student. Will you accept my insurance?

We are providers for health insurance plans for all the colleges in our area.

Will insurance cover salivary testing costs?

If you are visiting our office because of our extensive experience with salivary hormone testing and interpretation, there are a few things we would like you to know in advance. The labs that do the testing for us do not accept insurance. Consequently, initial testing is an out-of-pocket expense for our patients. Once we have your salivary result, we will file on your behalf for reimbursement but this cannot be done in advance. Kits are purchased in our office and are taken home by the patient for collection and mailing. Costs of testing vary depending on the extensiveness of tests ordered and will be given during your initial consultation.

I am having difficulty becoming pregnant. Should I make an appointment there for evaluation?

Dr. Allison does do basic infertility evaluation and treatment and is often successful helping couple achieve pregnancy. If the situation is too complex, she will refer to a facility that does only infertility.
